Connections

After much protest, in 1999 an airport was constructed on La Gomera. It is only used for regional flights within the Canary Islands. There are daily flights from Tenerife Norte.

The best and most affordable way to get to La Gomera is to take the ferry from Los Christianos on Tenerife: the Fred Olsen Lines fast ferry or the Garajonay Express to San Sebastián de La Gomera. The Garajonay Express continues to Playa Santiago and Valle Gran Rey.

Transportation on La Gomera

A rental car is absolutely necessary to explore the island. Local buses exist, but don't really seem to have a fixed schedule. Also, when they're full, they leave you standing on the roadside. It's always best to book a rental car in advance through the internet. It's cheaper than renting locally. Take all risk insurance.

Money

Many banks have ATMs ("telebanco"). If you know which places you are going to visit, you can find out online if and where there are ATM's that you can use with MasterCard and Cirrus or Visa

Climate and best time to travel

It's always spring or mid-summer on La Gomera. It's on the tropic of cancer. The ocean currents and trade winds compensate, so it's never too hot. Keep in mind that the southern part of the island gets more hours of sun than the less predictable north (which is also the case on Tenerife).
